No, we aren't breaking into anything. Hacking is a new process of learning. To us, hacking means creating, innovating, and building something awesome with software or hardware. Another definition that we have is creatively solving a problem.
Absolutely! If you have a passion for all things tech, this is the place for you. Our events span a range of skill levels. We have events planned for beginners, so you'll learn how to code in no time!
HackUSU is completely free! There's no entry fee, and we'll provide enough food and snacks for the entire 36 hours. How neat is that?
Teams can have up to 4 people. If you don't have a team when you come, don't worry! There are plenty of people who come alone that you can team up with.
You must currently be a university or college student, or have graduated in the last 12 months. There is no restriction on major. All students are welcome!
Absolutely! Many times, coming up with an idea for a project is the hardest part, and that doesn't require any technical knowledge. Also, we need designers to help us make our apps look good!
You can't use any code that was written before the start of the hackathon. However, we encourage you to begin thinking of ideas now!
Yes, there will definitely be prizes! We will have different prize categories, and the judges will pick the best project in each category. In addition, there will be lots of swag from our sponsors for everyone!
This year we will have a special "Hack the Homeless" prize category. One of our sponsors, Utah Open Data Catalog, has millions of rows of data, and we want to use it to help the homeless! We will also have categories such as "Best Game" and "Best Hardware Hack".
